Making the Right Self Storage Solutions

Reclaim Your Garage – Tips For Clearing The Space

How much space do you have in your garage to actually move around? If you needed to, would you have the space to jack your car up to change a flat tire? Can you change your oil? Can you even make it around the car while carrying an armful of groceries? Here, you'll find a few tips that can help you clear out some much-needed space in your garage.

Lease a Mini Storage Unit

There are probably lots of things in your garage that you only need once or twice a year, or that are only used seasonally – like your lawnmower and snowblower. The things that you have in your garage that you know that you won't be needing anytime in the near future can be moved from the garage to mini storage units.

Tip: Before storing any gas-powered items for a long period of time, add some fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and fill it the rest of the way up. This will prevent the fuel from gumming up in the lines and prevent corrosion from forming in the gas tank.

Utilize Rafter Space

If you have open rafters in your garage, you have lots of storage space that you've been overlooking. Ladders, building materials and other bulky items can all be hoisted up into the rafters and stored until you need them. This will free-up wall and floor space and open things up quite a bit.

Overhead Storage Shelves

There are some really cool overhead storage shelves marketed today. These shelves are mounted to the beams and can support quite a bit of weight. These are perfect for storing large bins of things that aren't used often, but are used too often to store somewhere other than your home.

Have a Yard Sale

How many things do you have in the garage that you'll never use again? If it's been buried for years, chances are, you won't miss it if you get rid of it.

Downsize the collection of stuff by hosting a yard sale. You might make enough cash to pay for some of the stuff that you need to get a little more organized in the garage – all while clearing out the space!

The work that goes into clearing out and organizing your garage is great, but the feeling that you'll get when it's all done and you can actually use your garage, is even better!
